A curated ear is an ear with different types of jewelry and piercings combined, such as a combination of hoops, huggies, studs and cuffs. It can be very tricky to style your ear perfectly and have the piercings match, especially at the time when you want multiple piercings in your ear or ears. There are some important tools to think about to make this process easier; your skin tone, your personal aesthetic of your ears and the jewelry style you want to go for (simple, busy etc.). Everyone's ear is different in size and shape, so not every piercing will look the same and as beautiful on anyone and sometimes not even every piercing will fit in everyone's ear. For example an ear can be small for which, there is not enough space for a triple forward helix, a daith or a Tragus piercing.

It is important to keep in mind that your ears are sisters, not twins. This means that both ears don't have to be the same in terms of piercing and styling, but it is nice to connect them. A handy way to do this is by creating consistency by matching certain jewels with the same stones and/or stones with the same colour shade. Another way to create tranquility in your styling is to choose 1 type of metal, like all gold jewelry or all silver etc. or by tying a theme to it. A good example that you see coming up lately is the celestial theme. This theme is formed by choosing a combination of jewelry with the celestial theme such as stars and a moon. The color of the metal and the color of the gemstones are based on your own preference and what suits you best. If you are hesitating between certain colours, it helps to hold the jewellery and colours that you are hesitating between up to your face to see which one does the most for your face.

If you are just starting to curate your ears it is advisable to discuss with the piercer what piercing would suit your aesthetic best and what piercing you have in mind and look at this together. A good piercer will be able to help you and advise you what would look nice with the aesthetics of your ear. Start step by step and eventually build your ear into a piece of art, don't do this in a hurry because you can always get more piercings. The unwritten 'rule' is to not pierce more than 3 piercings at a time and often a piercer will not do more than 2 at a time. This is because your body needs time to let your piercing recover properly. Leave enough space between your piercing, this gives your ear a more balanced look. If you leave about the same amount of space between all your piercings, this looks calmer and proportionally often better. By dividing the proportion of piercings on the top and bottom of your ear nicely you get a balanced look. As an example; if you have several piercings in your earlobe, it is nice to place a piercing on the top of your ear, like a helix to divide the jewelry in your ear.

With so much beautiful jewelry and piercings, it's hard to style your ears perfectly, luckily piercers can often help you out a lot. Another useful tool is to take a picture of your ear, print this picture out and draw the piercings you have in mind on it. This way you can see what the result looks like on your own ear.
